About Me

21 Oct 2008

My father was a ranger and I owe my career to him. He is the one who gave me advice and helped me become the ranger I am today.

I am passionate about elephants and am lucky to be stationed at Kabaraza, which is home to many elephants. Elephants are incredibly intelligent creatures. Lately, Virunga’s elephants have been increasingly exposed to ivory poachers as a result of the recent lifting of the ban on ivory in South Africa. Luckily several herds have set up camp in and around Kabaraza because the know they are relatively safe here. Elephants can destructive animals as can be seen by all the trees that have been uprooted since their arrival. Every day I hope and pray for an end to the killings we have seen this year.
